Advertorial
Sometimes you don’t realize how precious something is until you’ve lost it.
My husband and I met Flash when we were volunteering at the local animal shelter. Honestly, he wasn’t the type of dog most people are looking to adopt. He was already 10 years old — an old-timer for sure!
When we moved to adopt him, the vet warned us that he might not have much time left. He already had a few health problems. But we liked him, and he felt like a good fit for us. Plus, it didn’t seem right to leave him there. Old guys like him don’t always get a second chance.
It took us no time to fall in love with “Grandpa Flash”. Everywhere we went, he followed. And when he wasn’t shadowing us from room to room, he was somewhere fast asleep. Funny, he seemed to love taking naps everywhere except the bed we bought for him.
On the couch with the TV remote….
...next to a good book...
…..on the pool furniture…..in my husband’s favorite chair…I’ve even got a video of him snoring on the keyboard of my work computer.
We got a kick out of taking pictures of him cozied up in all these unusual spots. They were great to send to family for a laugh. But I also think the photos were also our way of making him a part of the family. He went being unknown and unloved in a shelter for three years….to having a family that filled an entire folder on their computer with his pictures. That’s something special.
When our son was born, he was just as excited as we were. You know – in his own sleepy kind of way.
I remember the way he insisted on staying next to the crib. He even tried to drag his little bed (the one we couldn’t get him to sleep in before) into the room. It was his job to “protect” the new baby, and you weren’t going to tell him otherwise!
We lost Flash last summer, and we miss him more every day. The pictures like the ones above are beyond priceless to us.
Last weekend, I found out just how attached to those memories I really am.
While I was searching for something on our aging desktop computer, something terrible happened. The screen suddenly went black! I tried EVERYTHING, but there was just no reviving this thing. Here’s the scary part – ALL of our photos and videos were on that computer. And when I say all, I mean ALL!
Once I realized what had happened, my stomach knotted up and I felt sick to my stomach. The tears started falling immediately. Losing Flash had been rough…. but at least we had all those photos and home movies to remember him by. Even if the memories started to fade, they pictures would keep him alive.
Now it was all gone. And just like the day we got him, there was virtually nothing to show he even existed. I was devastated! What I didn’t know at the time was that my husband had already invested in some backup.
He’s the type of person to carry an umbrella on a sunny day. So naturally, when he saw an ad on Facebook for a product called Photostick that could sort through, organize, and backup EVERY photo or video in case of emergencies in one-click, he was all over it.
I was mad he didn’t tell me, but I’m SO glad he decided to give it a try. We had A LOT of photos and videos saved on our computer, and we didn’t have them backed up anywhere (I’ll never make THAT mistake again). Plus, it wasn’t expensive at all!
A month before the computer died, he took a few minutes to plug it in and try it out. All in all, we had something like 3,400 photos stored all over the computer. Get this – in no more than 20 minutes, it not only scanned and backed up everything….it also identified and removed any duplicates. My husband says he walked out of the room to make a tuna sandwich while it was working, and it was done before he was!
“Relieved” is not the word for how I felt when he told me.
When he pulled the Photostick full of our pre-saved pics out of the drawer and plugged it into our laptop, and there all our photos were, safe and sound…I think I let out an audible “PHEW!”
I LOVE the fact that it only takes 3 Steps to do everything:
Step 1: Plug ThePhotoStick into your computer (works for both Mac and Windows).
Step 2: Open the program.
Step 3: Click ‘GO’….and FINISHED!!!
That’s it. ONE click and you’re DONE. No-nonsense. No hassle. No time lost.
I honestly can’t think of a reason why anyone wouldn’t buy something like this.
Considering you can automatically organize and fit all your precious photos on one little thumb drive for less than the cost of a small bag of dog food? It’s a win-win.
No matter what happens, I know the memories that keep us smiling will be around for good – our old friend Flash included.
As of December 1, 2023, it looks like they’re still offering you ThePhotoStick in various sizes at deep discounts – you can even get their top of the line 128GB at over 50% OFF + FREE Shipping (how many computers can you backup with 128GB? A lot I suspect).
